An entirely Web based application, physicians can use any secure webbrowser to connect via Elysium to HealthLINC, a Health Information Exchange(HIE) that clinically networks all medical trading partners includingpharmacies, hospitals, labs and more. Elysium EMR provides completee-Prescribing functionality as part of the clinical messaging and electronicmedical record system. Electronic prescribing will save an extraordinary numberof lives, increase physician efficiency, decrease medical mistakes, reduce costsby the billions, increase health care access, and limit the time patients spendin physician offices In response to news of the forthcoming federal funds, Dr. Todd Rowland,Executive Director of HealthLINC and Director of Medical Informatics atBloomington Hospital said, “We are pleased to learn that we will receive thesefunds and extremely grateful to Congressman Hill and his staff.

The funds willhelp us further our mission of improving the health care of Southern Indiana andallow us to significantly improve patient safety and quality throughcollaboration and technology.” There are approximately three billion prescriptions written annually, one of thelargest paper-based processes in the United States, and a simple e-Prescribingsystem can easily streamline and increase the effectiveness and efficiency ofthe prescription process, benefitting patient care. “e-Prescribing is another component to changing how health care is rendered byphysicians, and how it will be received by patients,” Dr Rowland added. “It isa `behind the scenes` change that will appreciably enhance patient safety whilealso improving efficiencies for clinicians and patients. HealthLINC is poised tobe a leader in terms of shaping the national health care delivery system, allowing Indiana patients to be among the first to reap these importantbenefits.” “I am pleased that we were able to work together to get this funding,” saidCongressman Baron Hill. “The e-Prescribing funds will make it easier for doctorsto have the information and tools they need to deliver patients the highestquality care possible. I will certainly continue to support this endeavor.” With the e-Prescribing initiative, HealthLINC will be able to further build onits mission of improving health care, patient safety and access in southernIndiana and continue to serve as a national model as the health care paradigmcontinues to shift in the United States.
