Also a break close to home can be as relaxing as travelling long-haul – I’m a big fan of going to hotels in your home town. Are you an independent traveller?I definitely don’t like going on organised tours. When I’m modelling, my agent and the client arrange the trip, but I am very likely to stay on afterwards or take a detour to somewhere I want to explore. When I travel for pleasure or to write I tend to go alone. Are you a beach bum, culture vulture or adrenalin junkie? All three depending on mood and location. What do you read on holiday?I read a real mixture of classics and modern novels as well as the odd fashion magazine. At the moment I’m doing a lot of research for a book but the last thing I read for pleasure was Claire Tomalin’s biography of Samuel Pepys.Where have you lost your heart?Bali. It is one of my favourite places in the world to stay and I love the people.

I have had a couple of magical trips there, which always make me want to go back. A wonderful memory was when a group of us climbed the volcano Mount Agung and arrived at dawn – it was a very special moment.Who would be your ultimate travelling companion? The boring answer would be my boyfriend. In my dream life I’d take Gabriel Garcia Marquez to tell me stories, David Bailey to take pictures and the young Paul Newman to give me massages and feed me.What luxury would you never travel without? My camera. I can’t imagine going anywhere without it.Is it better to travel than to arrive?Definitely not. I don’t like any part of the travelling process, although I do sleep like a baby on the plane. I genuinely love the moment of arrival, be it in the heat or the snow.To where would you never return?I’m not crazy about Florida, although I do have to work in Miami from time to time.

I would prefer to go somewhere a bit more adventurous. What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you on holiday? When I visited Bora Bora it rained non-stop and I was chased and bitten by a wild dog on the first day. I am prepared to give it a second chance because it is paradise. Also on a recent work trip I had all my shoes stolen from my suitcase, so there must have been a baggage-handler with a foot fetish!Where would you emigrate to?I have always joked about moving to the south of Italy, on the Amalfi coast, somewhere near Ravello – it’s so beautiful around there. What’s the most overrated place you’ve been?I’d say Bora Bora, but only because of my terrible experience there, and I would be prepared to go again. What’s the most underrated place you’ve been?Havana, but only because before I went my friends had all said that there was nothing good to eat and everybody was miserable, but I really fell in love with it. However, I am very rarely disappointed by the places I visit.Where would be your trip of a lifetime?I would really love to go to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

I want to scuba dive in the Maldives, but I’d like to do them both together, that’s my dream at the moment. The world ends tomorrow – where do you regret never having been?Ridiculously, it’s Ireland. I’ve got Irish blood and I have still never been even though it’s so close. I keep trying to arrange a trip and it always seems to fall through at the last moment.Where are you going next?Harbour Island in the Bahamas for Easter.. “Sticks?” En masse, our 11-strong group visibly blanch “You want us to use sticks?” In lieu of toilet paper For the next two weeks. Perhaps if we had signed up for a survival course the stick thing would have been less of a stumbling block.
